Glad to see your back at it Soup, nice finds.

attended the mount vernon il tri- state hunt

sep 22.23.

since it was on my way back home i decided to contact

ol soupie. a.k.a. king of the farmfields.

he was kind enuf to invite me along on a couple

of his hunts. the first day we went to a location where

we had searched together before. soup found 2 coins

a fat indian and a wheat. i barely had a find to show

but managed a tiny GP pin " perfect attendence 1928"

back at the hotel that night i found that one

of my scrap copper pcs was a tag from an old

piece of farm machinery.

reads WINCHELL CHAMPION HUSKER

PATD JAN 1, 1839

IN SPRINGFIELD OHIO

i still need to do more research on this.

turned out to be a real nice hunt.

since i wasnt in any hurry to get home we decided

to try again the next day if it didnt rain.

and luck was with us.

we hit another site that hadhard stubble and hardly

any room for swinging.

soup lent me his 5 in solid coil for etrac/exp.thank you.

it worked well but we didnt find much

except for some old plumbing.

on the way to one last site we tried to

get permission on another site, but the man was not home.

i almost succumbed to the comfortable leather

interior and heated seats on soups mits wonder truck.

my 50 year old body was feeling the effects of 2 days competition

hunting followed by 2 days field hunts.

so i was a bit stiff as we arrived at the final site.

i was glad to see flatter dirt as this farmer had cut closer to the

ground.and back to my stock coil which i am used to.

scott had a coin quite early and that got my attention

. i was now almost 2 days field hunting no coins.

i was desperate to prove i could find something when
i found the large copper key.
i was finally rewarded with an indian cent.

good he sez "i didnt want to make u feel bad but

i already got another coin"

so kind of him

i have had good luck on the very first row before so i decided

to try that. it means digging a lot of beer trash

being close to the edge of the field.

after a bunch of can slaw i was happy to find the large brass

crotal bell.it blew my headphones off.

soup showed me pieces of another bell and i felt kinda bad

that he hadnt found it. but that didnt last as he was

soon studying a civil war era 2 piece military button.

cool beans! great finds. we were really rescuing the relics.

the fire works werent over i wandered into

an area that produced 7 indians in 20 min.

including a 3x multiple in one hole.

finally we were to tired to continue. wow

a great hunt . thanku again soup for a great hunt.

i tried to show my gratitude by inviting soup for

an italian beef in town. but his wife was expecting him for dinner.

dinner.

next morn at 3 wheat an 1920 merc at the park.

FINALLY SAW A WHITE SQUIRREL

sorry so long not trying to hijack post

scrounger out......

You guys rock!

Nice bell and a half and enough IH's to start a village!

Congrats on that first Scrounger! (white squirrel)

Looking forward to more of the great digs from that locale!
