I have legally hunted the beaches in Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach, and Tybee Island. A simple email to the cities you will visiting will get you a response from that municipality. Just ask if the "Recreational Use of a Metal Detector" is permitted. That return email becomes your permit if anyone should challenge what you are doing.
