I wanted to find out if anyone has any info on the regulations of metal detecting on South Padre Island. I know its illegal on Padre Island, the section that is a National Seashore. Ive heard it was illegal on South Padre as well?? Is this true. Any info would be much appreciated

It's only illegal if they see you. :D

just kidding.

Are you talking about the Andy Bowie park area or the Jetties? Both sides are open. The National sea shore area is at the cut.

The cut is north. After entering the 5th or 6th entrance, and then driving about 30 minutes north, till you can't drive no more, since there is a ship channel. On the other side of that ship channel, you can't hunt there. Apparently there are Reales there from the last time they dredged and found some.

If you travel to Boca Chica beach, there is a Civil War camp site there. On older maps and even modern ones I believe, there is a place called Palmito Hill. It is privately owned, and I can't find a way to hunt that area.

Also, towards Boca Chica each, there is a Federal land area, and if you have a firearm on you, you are in direct violation of something for passing through. Weird.

On the way back from Boca Chica beach, when the day is done, you will need to go through a Border Patrol checkpoint. funny huh?
