Detector(s) used
Minelab Excal 1000, Tesoro Silver Umax, Tiger Shark and Whites MXT.
What are some opinions out there for the weight of the GT out there detecting? It feels pretty heavy and was curious what people have experienced. I like to detect for a few hours to a full day at a time. Thanks

The GT balances better because of the rod making it feel lighter then the older SOV's.

it is very heavy, but i hip mount it and can hunt all day even with a bad shoulder and tennis elbow!

I appreciate the replies and welcome any more thoughts. I may just stick with my Tesoro's and Minelab excal. :occasion14:

My guess would be around five pounds. If you add a meter and SunRay probe, you might be looking at around six pounds. Both configurations could go a bit higher. I doubt they weigh less, if at all.

I hipmount my Sovereign XS as it's just too heavy for me to swing anymore.

Good hunting,

The Sov GT with meter but no probe weighs a full six pounds! I weighed all the pieces on a small scale that reads to 1/2 oz. I carried it to my detecting spot 4 blocks away & after 15 minutes I decided time to sell it because of the weight, mostly. But I am only 135 lbs with almost no muscle & didn't bother to hipmount.

I got a Fisher F70 that weighs 2.9 lbs including batteries. The depth reading goes to 16". I also got a X-Terra 70 & with the stock coil got it to beep on a dime to 12" in Coin & Treasure mode/Beach, about an inch less with Coin & Treasure land settings (air tests). The X-Terra weighs maybe 3.4 lbs (?) with batteries. HH, George (MN)

What is heavy is all the gold you have to carry back to your vehicle when you use the Sov GT.................. ;D

If you use a shoulder harness (swingy thing) you will not even notice the weight. I can hunt all day with mine with no problem, but I use a shoulder harness on all my detectors.... It makes it so easy to use, plus if I let go of my detector, it hangs right by my side...

i use the load Bering vest made for the battery of the GPX Gold Detector, hip mount the GT and the vest has a 0 ring on the upper chest (each side) that i attach the swingy thingy bungee cord to.i can hunt all day with a bad shoulder and tennis elbow.i also put my Excal ll on it...see pic's

Great tips and suggestions. Much appreciated and will be considered. I love the Excal and hear that the GT is much like it. Thanks again for all of the replies.

Good idea. I use a Swiggy Thingy that I got from Doc's Place. :coffee:
