spanish symbols???

found on 150 - 200 year old pine tree, deep into the flagstaff woods near San Francisco peak. Any ideas??

I don't think this is Spanish. (My opinion only)
This is more recent than any Spanish mark and not deep enough.

This apears to have been left within the last 35 to 40 years. ( my guess)

The tree appears to be an Aspen, which is a lot younger than you think. I doubt it is "spanish", but could be a modern cache marker of some sort. People have been hiding valuables throughout history. Quien sabe?

Could be a target carved on a tree for target practice. Run a metal detector over the tree and see if you get a reading.
