Split Shot Lead Sinkers

So, this is like the third time this has happened to me at the docks. I start fishing and all the magnet is pulling up is hooks (that's a duh) and split shot sinkers. Why the devil is split shot popping hot on my magnet?

Anyone else have this happen? Have they started coating them or is it a ferrous paint coating or something?

They started making them out of a different metal - not lead anymore. Saves the whales, or trees or something.

For that very reason I always remove them, I didn't think of that thanks a bunch.
