Anyone here ever hear of "Adbrite"? It is an advertising company who rotates ads on various forums . . . including this one.
I got a warning from my "NoScript" plugin in Firefox. Adbrite is one of the companies who places ads for "WinAntispyware" (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=381065) and "WinAntivirus", both of which are members of the Smitfraud virus family.
Please be very careful before clicking any of those ads. According to "http://www.adsensechat.com/archive/index.php/t-4838.html" the landing pages this company uses are dangerous and blocked by programs like Trend Mirco PC-cillin ( a LEGITIMATE antivirus, makers of "housecall" online virus scanner and the owners of "Hijack This!") and Kaspersky (another LEGITIMATE antivirus program). Norton ignores it, but then again almost every computer I get in my shop infected with Smitfraud is running Norton . . . go figure
What is Smitfraud? In terms of time at the computer shop, 2 hours in most cases (sometimes less, depending on which version and how many trojans it downloads to your computer) and sometimes it is only cleaned by a Format and OS reinstall if you get a really nasty variant. Most of the time, the machines I see come with Virtumundo if they have Smitfraud.
Just something to think about . . . and watch out for if clicking those ads.
I wonder if Tnet could just place their own ads or write their own ad rotator script --- maybe even use one of the hundreds of easily configurable FREE ones available on the web without spyware.
But, for now, I just love my noscript addon.
EDIT: forgot to add that, while McAfee Site Advisor says the site is OK, you should scroll down the page a bit (actually 6 pages of comments on Adbrite) and read a few of the comments.
