I think this is thin copper or some alloy. About the size of a half dollar. Any ideas?

It is very similar indeed. Mine is very thin and not heavy, but may have been used as a thin pressed cover for a knob. The layout of the stars and rays on yours and the internal circle of stars and rays on mine are very much the same (8 stars). Thanks for posting.
