I've seen a couple of sites claim that button as New York City Police uniform button, but another site claims New York City militia post-civil war. Hopefully someone who knows buttons will chime in

Thought it was 1625. Still a cool button. Guess I should've looked a little deeper.
 

That will clean up nice. 2 minutes in lemon juice & a nail brush & that front will come up looking much better.
