I currently own a Whites Spectrum XLT which I purchased approximately 17 or 18 years ago. I live in Denver, Colorado and can't seem to find anything much deeper than 5-6" deep. I have attributed most of this to high mineralization. My machine seems to be in fine working order, but I'm asking my fellow enthusiasts.....are today's machines that much better that I should invest another $1500 to $2000 to get a new machine?

I do believe you can get a detector that will go deeper for less than that. I would suggest you go to a local multi detector store and do a hands on to find one you are happy with that suits your needs!

Why not spend a whole lot less ($450.00), and get yourself a Tesoro Vaquero that will get you deeper and back in the treasure?!

I agree, an upgrade you should be happy with should not have to set you back more than $600 IMO.
I have to believe the current technology for ground balancing should help you overcome your problems with mineralization, and
that goes for just about all major brands out there. Good luck
