Definitely one of my favs. This is native stone art in my eyes. London, KY. Native tree frog. You can see a “mayanesc” influence. That pipe has patina.....I am still trying to figure out why the stealite material is found in different hues or colors. Smokin artifact.

Three sources of steatite in the Smokey’s. Look beyond the patina. Can a white man conceive of that design? I think not. That’s where the collectors eye is useful.

There are many different sources of steatite. Black steatite crops in Virginia mostly. The most common is found western North Carolina. This the location where you will see the green hues. Boy that geology degree paid off. Not!
