Was at the convenience store purchasing some cigarettes and some scratch off tickets. The change comes out the registers on the lil dispense tray :) excited to see a wheat in store change. Proceeded to go to car as my routine and scratch my ticket wit the newly found wheat cent. After winning ten dollars and deciding to celebrate my winning wit a free 6 pack . Upon arriving home and settling in I place my change in the table next to my man chair in my garage . Then from about an inch away the cent gets pulled to the bottom if my lil silver tray. Now I can say i have a 1943 steel cent I know it's nothing special but it's also interesting. Thanks for the read and and hope everyone has a happy holiday!!

All according to how that 43 steel cent grades out, could be worth a pretty penny. I looked up a Phila. mint 1943, here is the link showing values on different grades, assuming that is the mint you have?

Might not be a 1944 steel cent worth much much more, but still a nice find nevertheless.

Thanks it's funny sometimes where and when you find things :) while Crh probably only went thru 25 or so cent boxes found my share of wheats but never a zinc covered steel cent 1943 !

I was hunting a beach in the winter one year, and the black sand was so dense I was getting scratchy signals. At one point I thought I had something that was a solid target, and dug it (just to verify my detector was working), expecting maybe a rusty nail. I found the penny stuck to the magnet in my scoop (there to keep bobby pins from slipping through the screen) and was very surprised to see it! It was in pretty bad shape, but hadn't been there too long. Turns out a trinket shop on the pier sells all sorts of miscellaneous items. Someone probably bought it there and dropped it for me to find 6 months later. Found with my detector, but since I discriminate most iron, its probably the only one I'll ever dig. I'd certainly never expect to see one in pocket change!
