Sterling brush

Found this on the wooden item shelf, someone picked it up and decided not to buy it. Probably because there was some green tarnish on it. But it is clearly marked international Sterling.

Maybe there is just a higher copper content in this brush...I don't know.

Maybe they thought it was plated and set it down. Well, I bought it..I will test it later.

Yeah silver oxidizes in crazy ways - depending on what else is present. In the normal atmosphere, it generally turns black, but in the presence of different chemicals (especially strong oxidizers) you can get all sorts of crazy colors.

I'm thinking maybe hairspray causes that. I have a vanity set that has tarnish that looks very similar. Sunlight can alter the color of silver.

I bought something like that a few years ago; a vanity.mirror that had a marked .925 spot right in the middle.
