Dug a sterling military medal! Tank Weapons, Rifle and Carbine. It was a solid 9 inches down. Also dug a Merc, it’s my 40th silver coin FTY! Indian is from a quick hunt last night!

That is one awesome find!!! I bet you were thrilled to pull that up without mangling it!! What a stellar find Squirrel!!!

Nice. It’s a US Army marksmanship badge. The type of cross for the badge indicates the level of proficiency achieved on a weapons training program. Below, from left to right and in descending order of skill these are (currently): Expert, Sharpshooter and Marksman respectively… so yours is ‘Expert’.

Then, clasps are progressively suspended from the badge according to the weapon types where that proficiency has been achieved. The categories ‘Rifle’ and ‘Tank Weapons’ have been authorised since 1924, but ‘Carbine’ has only been authorised since 1944… so it could be tail end of WWII onwards.

Thanks!

The two separated bars came out of the hole first. Once I could tell what they were I realized the rest might still be in the hole. Sure enough, still buried in the bottom of the hole was the rest. I can definitely reattach the bottom bars with a little sterling wire. I am pretty happy with it!

Nice finds Squirrel. I like that military medal.

Wow congrats on some really finds

Seriously...that medal is one of the nicer/cooler dug finds I have seen in a while! Although I have never dig a disme or pine tree shilling (one day, one day), such a huge chunk worked silver is gorgeous.
