What are the odds of finding gold in Stokes County, NC?

I know it's been found all around, except for Surry County.

Here's the dilemma: I have about a half-mile of creek in the Sauraton Mtn. chain. There are a lot of gems, but could there be gold? Topo matches that of Pilot Mtn.

Can gold be found in a region outside the Slate Belt?

Theres not to many streams/creeks/rivers in NC that don't have at least some gold.

Well, that gets my spirits up. Astrobouncer. :icon_thumleft: Thanks!

ab knows that area.

Awesome. I'm really considering getting a gold wheel and turning that creek inside out. I've found a lot of garnet, but the whole mountain range is just really weird, as far as rock types go. There is igneous, sandstone and limestone all overlapping.

I have heard that gold can be found in any stream, creek or river. It just takes the time to test pan different area to find out where it is. Just like here in Ohio I have found gold in creeks where people tells me there is no way it is here in this county.....Matt

I plan on doing some sluicing and panning around the south stokes high school area this summer. I will let yall know what I find!
