I found this piece (chert) here in the Niagara region, and I've had one person tell me it's likely the handle to an old native tool and someone else tell me it looks like a small animal effigy. It's shape does not seem natural for chert, which is why I'm suspect it's an artifact of some type. Any thoughts? It was found in an area that has produced many native artifacts.

I see no signs that it has been worked. Try posting on the North American Indian forum. Tony

Thanks! It's so easy to over-think these things with these unusual shapes. But sometimes a rock is a rock.
