The hammers head looks like it would fit in your hand comfortably. Could it be an awl or some other type of tool?

Are you sure it is stone? If stone for sure I have no idea who would have made a stone hammer with iron handle.

Looks like lead in the pic, which would make more sense.

I think this is a GIMLET.
They were used to drill holes or
extract things from holes.
(like pull a fuse out of a touch hole
on a cannon)
No stone involved, just heavily rusted
steel.

Looks like a gimlet to me also. How would it be attached if it were a stone? Monty
