Stone Hammer?

Detecting off the appalachian trail today i detected what seems to be a hammer but the hammer is made out of stone and the handle is made out of iron.It cant be an indian artifact,so why is this hammer made out of stone.

The hammers head looks like it would fit in your hand comfortably. Could it be an awl or some other type of tool?

Are you sure it is stone? If stone for sure I have no idea who would have made a stone hammer with iron handle.

Looks like lead in the pic, which would make more sense.

Its not lead,its to hard plus i tried to scrape it,its defenitly stone.

I think this is a GIMLET.
They were used to drill holes or
extract things from holes.
(like pull a fuse out of a touch hole
on a cannon)
No stone involved, just heavily rusted
steel.
