Acquired from an old time collection in Finger Lakes Region, Central NY: the holes look properly conical to me, no signs of modern, metal tool work.....so do you agree that it is likely an authentic, ancient piece? What do you think its use would be? Certainly a decorative item, but how would it have been worn? Thanks!

What is the thickness? Assuming it is not paper thin, it matches some of the sandstone/pottery disks from the Ohio area. Some of the ornate ones are faked, but the common ones are still pretty common.

I think they were spindle whorls. Although they weren't harvesting wool, lots of animals produce a undercoat that is fine enough to spin. (Dogs were probably the most common animal for this.)

Looks like the Sandstone Discs I find in southern Ohio on Ft Ancient sites. There is one drilled one in this case and a couple with drill holes started. All personal finds.
