Strange Brass Pin

Hello All. Found this yesterday at a home/grove site. The site has stuff from the 1950's all the way back to the 1880's.

This appears to be an old pin that maybe had a ribbon or something attached back in the day. Looks pretty old to me, any ideas are appreciated.

this is a buckle, probably of the late Victorian period. it is missing a piece through the middle--a rotating post that would have had two or three prongs on it for attaching to a belt or sash. it is brass that was probably gold plated at one time.
