I found this piece of lead a few days ago where I also found a copper coin from the early 1800’s at a cellar hole. The strange thing was that this find was found in the middle of a small mire further away from the other finds I made. The lead piece is about 4 cm (1.6 inch) in width and weighs 3.5 grams. It is broken and appears to have been a round disc at its original shape. In the middle you can see a fancy round flower-like design. I’m very unsure about what it could be and I would really appreciate your help to identify this find. If you have a clue of what it is or how old it could be please let me know!

Possibly the lead backing to a bridle rosette

Pocket watch case?

It’s also hard to believe so because it must’ve been rare for a pocket watch to’ve been made out of pewter or lead...

Is there a small wire loop at the top of the relic?

Greetings Vl,

I've looked at it from all angles and I see elements that look like a Naval battle scene. I definitely think it's some kind of wash over thin ferrous metal. The image, the size and the topic suggests a powder flask. No one in their right mind would make a flask out of anything ferrous, unless it was once washed inside as well. The powder would certainly account for why the flask is so trashed and fragile. Perhaps from the Vasa! Well it's something to dream about, ain't it?

Nice find and best wishes!

Well I'm pretty sure the item is made out of lead or either pewter. I wouldn't believe that it displays a naval battle scene, for me it looks like a symmetrical star shaped design. The most possible thing this could be is probably the cap to a flask of some sort. I think that it would be a very long stretch to compare this item to the Vasa ship. But it's a cool and interesting thought anyways!

Ten pointed star is what I imagined. Three rays extend to the edge of the circle ... the rest is speculation, but may have formed the complete star. The star seems to be "cross-hatched ... woven ?"

You have to respect my brother. You're holding it, we're just guessing! At least I know what the Vasa was, but I concede that since most of the remains recovered/discovered in the Vasa were medieval and not industrial!
