Strange MD'ing Find

Strange find :o Well sort of anyways. The pick was about 4" down and darn near blew my ear drum out when I found it. The shovel was just under the surface, covered with leaves and grass. This ranks as the biggest find, size wise that I've recover. Wonder if this means I need to dig deeper ;D now I've got the tools for it. :D

Re: Strange MD'ing Find

Looks like, with a new handle, the pick will be usable.

Now if you can find an old gold pan and make a nice display.

Re: Strange MD'ing Find

? ? Check for any stamping on the pick. Late 70's, i helped tear down an old warehouse.
After removing the floor, we found 24 picks lined up side to side on top of one of the floor support beams. All were stamped S.P.& Co.( Southern Pacific ) and never had handles installed or used. I got 12 of them because my wife showed up and actually found them. So much dust and dirt had settled on them after a 100 yrs., we hadn't noticed them. Word got out and collectors started showing up and bought them for $25 each. I imagine now they would be worth considerably more.

Re: Strange MD'ing Find

My father in law thinks he buried his shovel last fall when dozing his back yard. Asked if I'd check it out. Guess I'll know it's it when my eardrums are blown out, eh?

Nice old find!

That's cool. The digger that I currently use was found by me about 4 years ago in about 5" of sand. I thought to myself that this has to be a sign of some sort. Call me superstitious, but I believe that it is my good luck charm. I seem to find more good items when I carry this digger on my tool belt.

Re: Strange MD'ing Find

Just look at the handle on that shovel! How long has it been since they were made that way! Great finds! Congrats! HH omnicognic 8)

Re: Strange MD'ing Find

They look real old to me. I am no pro, but I think I can tell when something is old. I would keep them as is don't try and fix them, take them to an auction house or somewhere to get them aprasied.

HH!!
