Strange penny

My dad has a 1970 D penny that is magnetic. He picked it out of change about 4 years ago because it was so shinny and to his surprise it was a 1970. He told me today that this penny will not tarnish and that till this day it still looks new\mint. Did I mention that he carries the penny in his pocket? I do not think that there is much of a market for counterfeit pennies, but this one sure is strange, any ideas?
