Well I have had an exciting couple of metal detecting days before the rain started. Went to two places that I really had hopes for. One was an old road that had a few houses on it at one time. Obtained permission from the farmer to go and was all excited. Well, I found the old foundations, the only problem was that the farmer and pass generations of his family have used it as party spots and junk yards and it was a nightmare. I haven't yet given up though. Going to switch to my smaller coil and try to pick around, also there were a few more old homes another half mile back in the field and im hoping the farmers "yards" stop at the two I was at.
Then yesterday I had gotten a lead on an old home that has been in the family for years and years. They never even told me about it before. Well its going up for auction soon so I ran right over to hit it up. Went thinking of all that untouched area to scour over. Well to make a long story short, after a few hits I started to realize that all the places had already been dug. Very sloppy digging at that, which of course leads me to the conclusion that another detectorist had already had invited themselves on there and cherry picked it. Very very sad day. Not saying I couldn't still find something there, just will have to really take my time. So I remembered as I was leaving that I had promised my nephew that I would run my parents lawn with him because he was off from school. So I went over and we proceeded to metal detect the lawns I have detected over and over again. Well wouldn't you know it, about a half hour into detecting out popped a 1818 Coronet Head Large Cent. Of course he almost attacked me with the shovel, lol. Being only 9 years old he loves money.
So all in all it had an exciting turn at the end. Im cleaning it up now, have it sitting in a potato. I will post a pic when its done. Thats all for now, have a great day detecting everyone.
