I managed to get out yesterday for a short hunt. I headed into the woods where the ground was manageable. Forget the open turf, that stuff is SOLID (like Jon mentioned). I sure was getting a lot of good signals but dug alot of junk. I was freezing my @$$ off, mostly my fingers and especially my left ring finger (don't ask). On my way to the car I got a perfect nickel signal. Now, you know there are a lot of those nickely signals that you get where you figure it might be a nickel, but could also be a pulltab or peice of foil. Then, you get those perfect solid nickel hits where you are just totally confident there's a five-center under your coil. I dug my hard four-sided plug and popped it out, and there sticking out from the bottom was indeed a nickel. Plucked it out and saw it was a buffalo nickel. At that point, I was happy as a clam and satisfied I had found something old so I left.
But now, something was wrong. My car was making this horrible knocking sound. Sounds like someone was hammering the undercarriage of my car whenever I coasted after accelerating. Crap. Called the uncle (Honda service veteran) and made an appointment for the car doctor Monday morning. There goes yet another day of work I could have used during the spring or summer for swinging. I guess it's all for the better. For now, I am stuck here, scared to drive my car out of fear it will disintegrate on the road (sure sounds like it). Wanted to get out for a while today but it looks like it's not going to happen. So I'll just have to snuggle up to the warm fleece of an ageless (dateless) bison and maybe count its fleas to pass the time away.
To whoever goes out today, good luck- the woods are diggable if you don't mind putting your weight on your digger a bit.
