Hi,

Antique brass-plated cast iron architectural salvage piece, circa late 1800's to early 1900's. This piece is a little under 3.5 inches tall and 3 inches wide. It has "Part" stamped on one edge of the base, and "D638" on the other side. It weighs slightly over 1 pound.

What is it and what's it for?

Many thanks. mystery2.webpmystery.webp

I don't have a clue what it's original purpose is but, if I had that I'd put a roll of stamps in there.

no idea but its neat

I'm guessing there used to be a glass ball that was held in place by the rivet - or post or whatever you wanna call it.

Is anything on the bottom? Is it flat? Threaded hole? Anything?

It is a secret doorknob from the Adams Family Mansion.

Was from the door to Uncle Fester's Lab. :P

I'm with kcm. I think that rivet held another piece on it.

Cool, is there a hole on the back side that could of been a finial on a lamp etc ?----th2OU86EFY lamp.webp

Wow... this is a head-scratcher :)

Bottom is flat.
No holes anywhere, except for a tiny hole (probably a flaw in mfg) and doesn't go through.

Need to see the bottom.

With no holes to mount to anything, and weighing over a pound-- maybe a paper weight like these---th9Y2SBEYZ paper wdht.webp

The piece in the center is what really don't make sense.

May have been a wood piece in center that rotted away ???

I need a closeup of the back.

Not able to get a photo until later today. Will post when I get home and get a photo.
Thanks.

I'm wondering what the bottom looks like

If there's evidence of a screw being broken off the back, then I would say it is a door stop that screwed into the baseboard behind a door. A rubber cap or bumper snapped over the knob in the middle.View attachment 1317047

old candle holder?

Does the round middle pc go thru the pc with leaves and screws into the base. its cast
so I guest it was cast into different pcs.

I'm gonna stick with paper weight. That sounds very likely to me, as the only air conditioning that used to be was open windows - the kind that wind liked to blow into. :laughing7:
