Sudden rash of non-payers. Anyone else have this problem?

I've had 3 items sell in the last 5 months wherein the buyer never paid and the Unpaid Item Assistant function had to reverse out the fees and release the listing. I've been a member since the beginning (Nov. '98) and had only 2 other incidents like this over the previous 17 years combined.

Is this a new trend? And has anyone else been experiencing this, too, lately?

I am an infrequent seller, mostly sell to fund my hobbies/collecting. I had one of those recently, although I am just as happy it did not sell because it only went for a buck and was a somewhat heavy knickknack that would have been a PIA to pack and ship. After the unpaid case worked its way to completion, buyer finally returns my eBay message and tells me, "Oh sorry, I was on a cruise when this auction ended. Do you want me to pay for it now?". LOL I told her it was too late.

In any event, that was the first time I've had to deal with a non-paying bidder.
