Why the polygon shape? Something with the lens or shutter?

Lens flare - the shape is from the the aperture blades (different than the shutter) inside the lens itself. Mainly due to the almost direct sunlight. Before you converted it to sepia (?), if the flare had colors in it, you could also call it a "chromatic aberration". Sometimes, it can be used as a desired effect depending on the shot - most of the time, it's unwanted. You definitely don't want to be looking through the lens into the direct sunlight either - awesome way to burn your cornea... :icon_pirat: Nice shot though... :thumbsup:
 
Thanks DD-777. Thats interesting, and oh no! I would never look thru at the sun. I take all my pix with a digital, probably just held it up and pointed at the house. :icon_sunny:
