Metal Detecting
Headed back out to one of the old homesites in the woods here at a local lake with my Prizm III, the site dates back to at least 1901 as it is on a map I have from that time. Finds were plentiful, but most were just rusty metal and those rings that go on a horse bridle. I hunted from about 1 until 4:30. Did manage to pull a couple of wheats, a 1928, and a 1942. Also dug up this good luck token that reads "LUCKYS RENDEZVOUS/SUPER MEAL LIQUORS/773 ST NICHOLAS AVE/NEW YORK 31, N.Y." and the other side reads "KEEP ME AND NEVER GO BROKE/I BRING GOOD LUCK"....too bad someone bent it to get the penny out so I have no idea how old it is, but I did see one on ebay that had a 1919 wheatie encased in it so it's probably close to that date at least, and VERY far from home here in WV! The last keeper was what looks like a magnifying glass, it is 2.5 cm in diameter and has a magnifying lens and a gold plated rim with decorations, looks like the base metal is copper. Its really a neat find I thought. Other finds include half of a lipstick tube, a spighot handle, old lighter, some .223 blank or tracer rounds, a porcelain jar lid seal, and lots of rusty junk.

Thanks for looking and HH!

Unusual to see those .223 blanks outside a cemetery...I find them frequently from honor gaurd salutes to veterns. Remington introduced .223 ammo in 1957, I have no other refreneces for that caliber available.

Makes one wonder...cem nearby?

yes, there was a cemetary near, but it was moved when the lake was built in the 60's and 70's

That would be cool, I searched and searched the area close to where I found the token....no luck though, the two wheaties that I found were pretty far away

I would say that someone spent the penny and threw the token down because the token was bent in a way as to remove the encased wheatie.....that makes the second token that I have found that was SUPPOSED to have a penny encased....here's a pic of the other, I found it last fall at another location in the woods, an old squatter's foundation on my father in laws land.

I have one of those tokens that is supposed to have a penny inside. It is from a now defunct bank. Guess the promo didn't help! :D Monty

NEVRDUN, Congrats On The Nice Finds, I Think That Mystery Item May Be A Piece Of Mourning Jewelry, It Would Have Held A Lock of Hair From a Deceased Love One. Women in the 1800's Would Often ware them. Just a Guess. trk5capt...

looks like you may be right trk5capt, there was a very small piece of broken glass from the other side still stuck in the rim, that piece of glass is thin and convex....as to leave an opening between the two pieces of glass

thx for the info!
