SURVEY (USGS) - 1) the orderly process of determining data relating to the physical or chemical characteristics of the earth. The list of orderly processes which can be properly termed “surveys” is long and may be divided into classes according to the type of data obtained, the methods and instruments used, and the purposes to be served. Examples: geodetic survey, topographic survey, hydrographic survey, land survey, geologic survey, geophysical survey, soil survey, mine survey, engineering survey. 2) The associated data obtained in a survey. The data obtained in a particular project may be designated by the name of the project, as “the topographic survey of the District of Columbia.” 3) An organization engaged in making a survey Such an organization is often given an official name which includes the word “survey.” Examples: “The United States Geological Survey,” “The
Massachusetts Geodetic Survey.” See MINERAL SURVEY*, PRELIMINARY SURVEY, RECONNAISANCE SURVEY, SUBDIVISION SURVEY, TOWNSITESURVEY* and
TRANSIT-STADIA SURVEY. MINERAL MANAGEMENT MAP SERIES- A BLM compilation of planimetric and Land Status Data consisting of SURFACE MANAGEMENT MAPS and SURFACE-MINERALS MANAGEMENT MAPS.
Are "SURFACE-MINERAL MANAGEMENT MAPS" and "SURFACE MANAGEMENT MAPS" just only 2 layers of the many different layers of "Maps"?
Any thoughts on this? Thank you.

What are the "Codes used" such as numbers etc. for each layer of maps. Anyone have a link for the guides on this?

What are the "Codes" for the more common map layers known as soil survey, mine survey, engineering survey? Does anyone have links to information about this?
Thank you.

Is it "Surface Locations" only on a "SURFACE-MINERAL MANAGEMENT MAPS"?
Any thoughts. Thanks

I would do a survey.

:-)

No need to as the government has all ready done so from the 1778 (First manual is 1785) to today known as the "Plan of the Cadastral survey of the public lands of the United States".
The question is what are all the layers or the "Codes" used to help address the map layers that most people do not see and use? Any ideas or links to this out there?

Forgot to point out that any "Color of Title" will most likely prevent any "Survey" taking place except a "Resurvey" or "Special type of Survey". Again there may be a "Layer Map" for that as well. Any ideas out there?

Anyone come across "BLM Documents" or better yet "Land Office Documents" that lay out not only different "Layers of maps" but the "Codes used" out there?
Thanks.

BLMs own glossaries document points out that there can only be "Surface-Mineral Management" taking 'Place within' the one layer map known as "SURFACE-MINERAL MANAGEMENT MAPS". Very clear as to what is happening is just "Management" and nothing else except by "Permit".
