Getting close to the end of my homestead hunting! Farmers are finishing up the last of their planting in my area. As I was hunting this site today the farmer pulled up and started planting but I was able to pull a few good finds anyway. The 1834 Caped bust half dime was not only holed but somehow got taco'd! Also added another eagle button to my collection. The buckle looking thing was pulled from the same hole but I have no idea what it is!

Do you think you could heat up that coin a bit and bend it back? I’ve never tried working silver.
Looking at it with a magnifying glass it already has small cracks in the crease, I'm afraid to try and bend it back I'm thinking it will probably break

One has to anneal the silver to do it properly.
Thin hammered silver, guys have straightened them heating them in the oven @550F.
Then again a hammered silver is thin compared to this coin.

Nice job on the finds RiverRat. A holed, taco'd Half dime is better than no Half dime at all !
Between the Caped and seated half dimes this makes # 26.5 total on half dime recoveries ,I found a cut one awhile back. Thanks for your reply

A great find - congrats !

I agree - from here it looks like the Half Dime would probably break in two if you tried to straighten it.

Such abuse! Such mistreatment! That poor, poor coin. Congrats at any rate. At least you were able to get a positive ID.
