tag holder??

found this today,, haven't really a clue,, any ideas,,half the plastic tag is missing,, it slides into the holder... pole,, penny for size ... thanx all

It's the hanger bar from the top of a ribbon badge, with a panel for a celluloid or paper insert bearing the wearer's name or title. The ribbon would have been imprinted with the name of the organization &/or event for which the badge was issued, and there may also have been a drop (medallion, ornament, etc.) suspended from the ribbon. It probably dates from the late 19th or early 20th century; however, similar badges are still made today.

Judging from the spacing, there would be no more than five more letters, or four with a space, otherwise it would be off center.

There was a pin on the back of the hanger bar, the same as on any ordinary sort of badge. You can see traces of the solder line in the second photo that Allsmith posted. The bar visible in the photo was for attachment of the ribbon, of course.

thanks for the help all,,, i kinda like digemall's idea..poletaker,,,the tag is broke in the very middle,,, did a search on poletaker but did not come up with anything though... but it is a person's last name ... sweet rendering with the pic digemall,,,thanks
