Tarnished gold ring

I found a ring with what looks like an opal in it and it says 14K on the inside. But it is very tarnished and it almost looks like rust. Can anyone tell me if it is gold or not?

The only gold that Ive seen tarnish was 10k, and it had a light brown color that cleaned off easily.
