I CAN'T afford the Excal or CZ-20. I've narrowed it down to the Tesoro Sand shark or Tiger Shark. I will be hunting about 90% fresh water beaches and lakes (scuba) and Salt water beaches while on vacation? I have even debated with the Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II. I have read the field tests and most of course say that the tested machine is the greatest to come along. I am looking for actual user input on their respective machines. Here is what I have heard and why I reduced to the 2-3 above...

  • Tesoro (VLF) better than the cz-20 and 1280x on smaller gold - but lacks the depth

The fishers are a bit sturdier - Tesoro has a weak piont where the coil wire enters the control box (tends to break)

Tesoro PI - no descrimination picks up everything (not recommended for fresh water)

Garret Sea Hunter Mark II - PI has descrimination (fasley advertised)? but still picks up everything (not recommended for fresh water)

Excaliber and CZ-20 out of my price range.
Thanks,
Kris

I have a Sting ray II great on small gold in fresh water. It is the Tesoro before the Tiger shark. It is a VLF
detector.r If you are doing mostly fresh water I would go with the tiger shark or you will be digging a lot of trash even fish hooks. I do not know how well it will do in salt water maybe someone else can give you some input on the salt.
