Doug, your latest hunch produced a few new items.

Doug, Bob and I have visited this spot many times were there moving trees and soil to make a temporary bridge while a new one is being built here in Raleigh, NC.

The left Civil War bullet still has the Rosewood plug in it.
Can some one enlighten me again on the Cal. and rosewood purpose? Thanks in advance.

FYI for everyone else, the spearheads we`ve been finding at the same location are from the Woodland Era Indians dated 2000 to 5000 BC.

Thank`s for looking everyone and i always enjoy reading everyone's post`s.

Thanks Ron.

I was hoping someone would chime in to let me know if they think it is confederate or union and what the purpose of the wood was for.

I,m not positive , but I think the purpose of the wooden plug was to help the bullet expand better in the barrel when shot .............. I think ???

Mac

The one with no rings looks like an Enfield .577 cal. and is confederate can't make out the other one. not quite sure the reason for the wood plug.

Nice finds

Hutch

Thanks Mac and Hutch for your 2 cents.

Very interesting JJ,. Thanks

Bill,
I just got back safely last night. Great CW finds!!! I'm glad my hunch paid off. PM me back with the general location where you found those. I may try to hit it this week sometime.
When you get time, lightly tap that bullet on a hard surface. The plug will come out neatly, and it may reveal a number inside. My last two from that area had a # "57" inside. That plug is going to eventually dry, shrink, and fall out so you may want to store it in a small baggie or something.
How did Mr. Bob do? :icon_scratch: I was hoping he would score some silver.
Great job & congrats,
Doug

Nice finds! I too found an Enfield with the plug still inside. Amazing that they are still intact after 140 plus years!

Hey... Glad you got back safely, Doug. I was golfing the day he went. I stopped by on my way home to see how he was doing. I got there just in time to see him dig up the 3 ringer. They really moved some dirt, there. Bill had a great hour or so. He told me that the wood plug fell out. We didn't get out today, but I emailed him to see if anything was written in the base of the bullet, but I haven't heard from him yet.

GOLFING??? :tongue3: Any silver on the course?
I'm glad to see there are still CW relics to be found there.
Bill probably headed back there today. :icon_scratch:

Doug, glad you made it back OK.
The plug came out intact with no letters or stamps inside. :'(

The large 3 ringer came from the same spot we found all the other minnies but slightly bigger than my previous / halfway to the creek.
The solid Minnie was found where all of the spear heads have been found pushed up on the edge of the new divot. Bob watched me dig it. Just wish he`d had your neat you tube Cam.

I tried to give the spearhead to Bob but he said i`d enjoy it more, and i will ;D

Thanks for looking everyone.

Awesome! I'm glad they are still churning up a few pieces of history. Get em' while you can before that gets paved. :-\
You would think a button or two would turn up.
Congrats on the bullet with plug intact. :icon_king:
