So it's cold and raining, my wife and I decided to go antiquing. (This story isn't about the "score", it's about how the "score" happened.) We found a great little shop in Peoria, AAA Antiques. Two story house, eccentric type lady owner...meant in a good way. We've found some items...I, a cane for my "collection" of cheap canes. My wife, she finally found a dairy bottle from the dairy that used to deliver to her family when she was a child. (Yes, youngsters, milk used to be delivered door to door, weird, huh? They would even leave it just sitting on your porch!)
So, upstairs we saw twelve books, "Masterpieces of Mystery", selected by Ellery Queen. No price on 'em. Downstairs, my wife asked her what she wanted for those books. Upstairs the lady goes....(to check the price)....downstairs she returns managing to carry all twelve books! I asked why she brought them down, we just wanted to know the price...she says, "I'm selling them!" That's the punchline...by the way, "I'm selling them!", statement of fact, exclamation point, no doubt..done deal.
I asked how much? $1.00 a book. Sold! She was right. They were her Mom's. Anyway, I was looking on EBay and we did alright. We've got a the better share of a twenty volume set. Someone had a bid of $30.00 for ten of 'em. One guy wanted $170.00 or something like that for the fifteen he was selling. Heck, we didn't even have to pay shipping.
