I took the tuned and deeper Cibola to a spot I have pounded hard and the extra depth gave me some nice finds.
A 1902 Barber quarter, Wheats =1912D, 1916, 1918, 1926, 1944D, and a ?. Also a Religeous medal and an old spoon [both plated]. Now I have a few more places to rehunt.
Best luck to all, Merf

Way to Go Merfdog!!!!!! Nice stuff ;D What did they do to your Cib??? Let me know, I may have to have mine "tuned".
Greg

Yeah, what adjustment did they make?

How deep was the Barber? That is a sweet coin. WTG. ;D ;D

The preset ground balance was way too positive. They had me send it in with a baggie of my soil and they adjusted the GB. It will now find a dime at 7 inches. Before the tune up 5 inches was the best it would do on a dime. The barber was down about 7 inches.
Only one of the wheats was lass than 5 inches. My next machine will definitly have adjustable GB.

great barber and wheats merf ! i'd say it did pay off, congrats ;)

Nice barber and wheats. I really like the bullets best. They maybe civil war.

Hello Merf!
Great stuff; got to love finding that silver!

I took possession of a Cortes I bought from the classifies just yesterday. I was surprised to learn the adjustable ground balance is only good for ALL METAL MODE, the DISC Mode is factory set.

I took the Cortes out today and used it after using my SE and was pleased with its performance. I already sense it doesn't have the depth capability of the SE. I did find a cheap ring at about 8 inches. I'll probably play with it quite a bit more before deciding to send it in for the custom ground balancing but I'm glad to know it's an option.

Way to go Merf!!!
Apparently, ground balance is very important for depth..

Keep safe...

I had the same thing done to my Cibola last year, when I got it back I was digging ring tail sharps bullets 9-12 inches down. What kind of base does that conical shaped bullet have you dug, I would love to see pics of the bottom. Thanks,

Paul

No rings on the base Paul-- Not civil war I think.

OH Merf...just look at that Barber.....OH...wait...I promised not to whine. :P :D

Dang! You had a GREAT hunt!!! Good luck re-searching all those sites!!!

Congrats!! Nana :)

Nice! Amazing how different things are when the machine is running right! Way to go.

Congrats on the Barber! Did you get the dirt back, LOL!!! HH, Mike

Glad you got your Cibola balanced correctly or at least close to correct. You're also right about the adjustable GB, it makes life a whole lot smoother that's for sure.

Merf, is it possible for the owner to GB these presets without sending them in? I'd guess they simply have a pot on the circuit board. Seems like if one marked the spot where it was and then adjusted it little by little one could do the same as the factory. Maybe it's more technical than that?

We use the Tejon and love it. We had the DeLeon but depth wasn't too great. The best we could do was about 4 1/2 inches on a freshly buried dime. It would barely whisper on a quarter at 6 inches. Maybe with a tune up they would do much better.

At any rate adjustable ground balance is the only kind we will buy in the future.

Best to you.

Thanks to all.

No dirt back Mike ;D

Doug--I think it can be done, I have read elsewhere that ther is a small pot on the circuit
board.

Jorge---Thanks for the link--Interesting stuff.
If not for the warranty I would try that.

DG---A couple of the wheats were down about 7 inches.

Way to go Nice finds and nice quarter

Great finds man, I love that barber.
