Relic Hunting
Been awhile since i posted on here. Got an invite out Saturday to an amazing civil war site that has produced great relics for a long time and still is squeezing a few out! Had come across a small pocket that had turned up a few 3 ringers and a couple eagle cuffs when i got a nice high reading on my Deus, popped the plug and as soon as the dirt broke apart i could see the button already shining. It only took a brief moment to quickly see that it was a button i have desired to find for awhile now a beautiful Marine Corp cuff button and it cleaned up pretty nice. Scratch that one off the list. Ended up with a fair number of targets for about a 3 hour hunt. Also a couple pics from a hunt a couple days before and a little earlier in the month. Got a 1820 large cent that was very deep with the Deus in a pounded site. A week or so before that I got the 1854 seated dime out of a heavy iron site, as you can see in the one pic the coin had been folded over on itself twice, i couldnt resist and had to try to unfold it and get a date and I managed to so without breaking the coin! Good hunting to all!

Nice finds! What was the back mark on that Marine button? Congrats

hard to make it out, pretty sure Scovill, will post a pic of back after work

Great finds, nice saves.

A few great hunts and some Awesome saves!! Sure would like to know how you unfolded the seated without busting it up. Lol

very slowly with a pair of needle nose pliers

killer hunt my man! Congrats.

Beautiful button, and nice job unfolding that coin! :icon_thumright:

Lovely button, would be interested in seeing the backside.

I can't make out anything on that backmark, but the front is interesting and distinct in how low the tail swoops, touching the anchor and filling that whole area like none I've seen.
Tice's doesn't show one like this, -- anyone have a different reference book they could check? --

closest match in Albert's is MC 9A, this is a cuff button so that may be why there is no listing and prehaps on the cuff design the eagles tail hangs low enough to touch the anchor?, just my guess
