This is the Carrier Midway. It was put in the water 8 days after the Japanese surrendered and never really saw a major war until the Gulf war. This thing is huge and has so many tight places to explore. The room with the maps is the "war room" and the place where the attack of Desert Storm was planed out. Many of the volunteers who help with questions were folks who served at on time on this massive ship. You could tell that it was a part of who they are and would do the work for free just to be with this ship. Well worth the visit, this is.

My younger brother sometimes serves as a docent on the 'Midway'.
As a Navy LT, he served two tours on Mekong River boats as the radio operator; left on board, alone at night, as others did their 'walk in the park'.
Don.....

Bet the wife liked this one better than the sub...

I could fill a 2 gig SD card with pics there!

That 2nd photo - boy, that place would sure make a nice shop!!

An old sailor who did maintenance on the aircraft when he was on it said on that lower deck they had so many aircraft in maintenance in all that space you had to crawl under and around them all, just to move around. It was crammed full of aircraft from front to the back.

Brings back memories of my time spent on the Enterprise (not the space ship!) in 72-73. Some good, some not so good but I wouldn't take anything for the experience.
