MM and I hit the road early and raced across many locations in NC today. It seemed like everyone welcomed us with open arms and let us dig up their yards!
I'm not kidding! We hunted 9 or 10 private properties. Every time we got to a place the owners suggested two new ones. Then we got permission and an escort.

We gave metal detecting lessons and some folks came with us hunting. A lady insisted MM take some fresh picked corn and at another place, an old dude gave me some arrow tips and told us tales of old.

We made a lot of friends, but found no wilver. The little ring is not gold either. It was a most entertaining and diverse day! :D
almost.webp
Thanks MM! That was a blast!

PS: it was nice meeting your cousin from south of the border!

I always consider a day with a bud is better than a day with wilver! Keep up the great hunts of MM and Ridley! Hmmmm....I better get to "sweep" (sleep)...the club and I are getting out for some relic hunting manana.

HH!

Now that's what I call a friendly neighborhood. Sounds like you and MM had a great time. So did he outhunt you today??

Most people keep to themselves here in S. CA. In fact, one lady came up to me at a park the other day and said, "I hope your not digging into the sod with your shovel". I should have answered, "no, I just keep a shovel on me for protection"..... ;D Anyway, I told her the truth, and she just tipped her nose up at me, got into her car, and drove off.

Ridley, what's that red thingy in your pic?? I found something similar to that when I was up in Golden Gate Park. Found out it was a vintage car reflector.

Captn,
The red thingy is indeed a reflector. I used the Minelab today and chased around for that elusive flute tone. Near the end of the day, MM left me with two teenagers and I schooled them in the art of detection, while he scouted two other locations.

I got that really high tone and told one of the kids to dig that target. It turned out to be a large aluminum token with a dinosaur on it. That was it! You could see the kid was hooked! I did it again, and he dug up an aluminum key fob with "Veterans of Foreign Wars" on it.

That token was the size of a silver dollar! I congratulated the kid and shook his hand.
You'd like detecting around here. One property owner just replied when we asked permission ..."Sure go ahead! Have fun!" :D

Wow, you guys lucked out. Those people in NC are really nice.

Sounds like you two had a fun day! Congrats on those finds!

the buckle is a roller buckle from a circa WW2 boot.just thought you might like to know.

McSancho,
You may be dead on with the WW2 buckle ID. In the yard where Ridley found this buckle, the owner of the property previously dug up a WW2 bayonet while planting some flowers in a flower bed. Cool finds.

Ridley (Dave),
The day was a big blur because we hit so many spots so quickly, but it was good meeting new people and finding more new locations. Silver or not, I know there will be some out there for future hunts. ;D
I like that red reflector you found. Can I mount it on my Tesoro? ;)

sounds like great day to hunt neat they were inviting you to hunt on their land.

What a great day out, congrats! HH, Mike

I'm surprised you guys didn't find more keepers with all those private properties. You must have been too busy gabbing and been distracted. ;) I do miss taking those exploritory trips where one place leads to another. Lot's of fun.

No million dollar treasures, but it sounds like a good day out there with some serious networking, which is always good. Cool post, thanks and good luck, both of you!

Smiles!
