This is the BrightSource Ivanpah Solar Power Plant . About 90 miles due south of Las Vegas . NV just across the state line in Califorina . Nevada also has one being built at Tonopah . Very qucikley ( and simpley ! ) this is how this thing works . A vast array of mirriors called heilostats follow the sun and focus that engery to the top of a 700 ft tower . At this point water or molten salt is pumped through the tower where it is heated to 1000 ° by the sun . This then makes steam whitch powers genarators and makes electricty , enough for about 75,000 homes .

About 5 miles NE of Ivanpah is this old ranch house and its out buildings . A bunkhouse a stable and some others that I am not sure what thier purpose was . It always amazes me how things have changed over time , but remain the same . I look down and see an arrowhead then look in the sky and see an F-14 from the China Lake Navel Air Station screaming over head . And then wonder to myself ....... what will tommrow bring ? Thanks a heap for comeing along ! Hope you had a time good time ! Hoss

Neat pics. Did you do any detecting around there?

No PP . This old ranch lies within the confines of The Mojave National Preserve and detecting is not allowed . A Preserve enjoys the same status as a National Park except hunting ( game ) is allowed .

I was glad to see that Hoss. They're talkin about puttin one of those in down in the San Luis Valley. Some opposition, but they already got cattle mutilations and alien abductions goin on so what better place for it in Colorado?! (haha!) Tomorrow never comes, but you have a good day today and a better day tomorrow!

I am glad to see them using the deserted places to help with our energy requirements. At least some people will get some use from them. If these were built all across the US, we could eliminate a lot of oil and coal fired electrical plants. Good Luck. rockhound

Great post, thanks for sharing
