Took advantage of a good weather day and went out detecting for a few hours. Things started off pretty slow with some lead, a wheatie, and a couple of nickels.

About two hours in to the hunt I hit on a nice signal that turned out to be a large copper. First of the new season!

After some gentle picking a few details started to show through. The obverse has a bust facing right. The reverse has...not much of anything. The coin weighs 87 grams, and measures about 30 mm in diameter. I'm guessing this is either a William iii or a William and Mary half penny. Other opinions are always welcome.

Thanks for taking a look. Best of luck to everyone in 2021!

Nice!!!! Congrats!!!!

Nice job, that’s an oldie!!! I dug 2 last year, they never look pretty unfortunately

I agree with your assessment of the coin. I think I'm seeing William and Mary in the pic on the left. You can see the line in the bust separating them. Nice finds.

Not sure why but the those and the William III are near impossible to get with details

I believe that you've got yourself a William and Mary. You can just make out the "double busts." I've only found one and it was in about the same shape as yours. It puts you solidly in the 1600's however!

Good find. More detail than most.

Thanks all. Such a treat to find this coin!

W&M. Nice find!

looks like one i found - William Mary - go back and hit slow and grid area

Don't see many of those posted up, congrats on the first copper of 2021.

Very nice! Congrats!

William & Mary for sure. It's my oldest coin...I found a 1693. Congrats!

William and Mary, makes it most likely 1694...

great start to the new year!
