Part of he Potato Field has had a 9 inch turn & is now disced flat ready for drilling. I spent 4 hours on my own after work gridding all 4 edges of a 1.5 acre area. The rest of the field, some of which we haven't tried has been left all weedy! This area we have totally gridded before & got a couple of hammered & a Celtic Gold Stater, so I wanted to get an idea of what had come up. Before we committed ourselves.
Although I dug plenty of targets including lots of junk, the 'recordables' per hour were borderline. But I think it worth another session to make my mind up.

Wow amazing finds

Nice recoveries on the ancient buttons and coins (except for the wheat cent, jk...) Really nice pair of old crotal bells. Congrats!

Still nice finds, Cru. How did that Wheatie gain a prominent position in your finds?

Absolutely worth another visit or two!

Way to systematically approach the field.

Just can’t escape those wheaties. Nice hunt Crusader. Good luck with your hunts. Walt

Bloody hell I'm surprised you could carry all that :)

Could you shed some light on this for me Crusader, I think it's an Edward but not sure if it is or exactly what coin it is. Any info as always greatly appreciated.

Your right its an Edward I Penny, good news is that instead of the common London Mint, its the second common Canterbury Mint (CIVITAS CANTOR)

PS. That was what I was hoping for yesterday, just 1 hammered - Well done!

Yeap, only found 2 bits of Crotal Bell for these 2 complete ones. Not the norm on most fields, however, this is becoming the best field for complete examples. I believe its pointing to it's use. A holding place for sheep, this can be just outside the market, or maybe the market area itself. Still need more evidence....

Looking forward to the finds buddy [emoji1696]
