Hello everyone,
Today was a very mild day for late December in Massachusetts, although the ground was frozen solid at a depth of 2” — 2 1/2” in the school’s wood chip playground.
My daughter and I, both sporting our Minelab x-terra 705’s hers with the 7.5 KHz and me the 18.75 KHz search coils tackled the out of town school yard. After understanding the frozen depth problem, we turned down the sensitivity way down to hit object no deeper than about 4 inches. This saved us the frustration of hearing the good signals knowing that we would need a jack hammer to retrieve them from their icy grave. We will go back in a few months (March/April) to completely finish the job. The hunt had a few surprises: two rings, small jewelry, GOLD earring, two magnets and an 1829 Mexican 1 real coin. Obviously, the “real” was a recent drop, probably brought in for show and tell? Another odd find of the day was a smaller than usual 2008 Washington quarter placed in a copper ring. Funny, it looks like it’s a wedding band? Lastly, a nice day of recently dropped clad shooting netting $ 1.76 dollars, and of course some junk.
Thank you for looking.
