I found this pin at a construction site this morning. The item has a pin back and is about the size of a half dollar. It was at least 10'' down in the clay and when it came out it was really crusty. Little did I know that the crust was what was holding it together. I was picking some of the mud off of the back and SNAP.
I'm not sure what I had here, but it will never be the same. Be carefull when cleaning your finds.

Ow! Nice find still!

I had that happen to a few coins... was trying to chip the crud off them, and they fell apart.

Sometimes it may be best to just leave them dirty. LOL!
