I thought that I had done all of the hunting that I was going to be able to do. After all, we had received several inches of snow, and more days of just plain cold weather, which in turn makes the ground like cement. So, I posted my yearly finds in the 2008 listings, and started thinking of spring.
Well, we got some nice warm weather that came thru, and melted the snow. So, on the 28th I decided to go back out to the old air base one last time. Really wanted to add to my silver totals for the year. Was able to hunt for about 3 hours, but other than a little clad, didn't find much. It was just as well, as the ground was really hard to dig in. Ended the day with a nice 1929s wheatie, my 25th wheat of the year.
The next day, Terry (Icandigit) wanted to go out one last time, so we headed off to one of the oldest parks in the city, as he had an itch that only swinging for awhile will cure. This park has been hit hard over the years, and mostly, when you do find a decent coin, it's just an older wheatie. Well, the first signal that I get is a penny/dime reading at 4 1/2". The ground was just as hard here as it was up at the air park. I thought that I had made the hole big enough where I wouldn't damage the coin, but as you can see in the picture, I still scratched it a little. This is the first silver coin that I've seen anyone find here in a lonnnnnnnnnnnggggggg time. It was just a 1957 Rosie, but it gave me my 12 silver of the year.
I am quite sure that I will not make it out again tommorow, so I can safely say, this was my last hunt for the year. Come on warm weather.
Happy huntin all.
