Ok here is a quick update for all those needing info. On Tuesday the wind and surf was really pounding the beaches. But it was coming in more from the east than the north/east. There were some small cuts on some beaches. But it is mostly just rounding off the dune to a big slope. REMEMBER, after the hurricanes of 2004 the state and county pumped and dumped huge amounts of sand up and down the Treasure Coast beaches. The cuts that are now forming are ONLY into that NEW fill. It will take a storm much larger than this to cut the beaches back to the 2004 levels.
As of this morning the sand has started coming back in. The low tide area's are very mushy and soft. This may change as the winds change direction.
Beach check...
Chucks/Bonisteel, The cut there is old, No significant erosion although the waves at high tide were climbing the dune slightly. But still just causing a rounded off look north of Chucks. Low areas soft and mushy. The same if you walk north 1/4 mile.
Wabasso, Large cut in front of the Disney resort. But again this is into NEW fill. The cut right in front of the parking lots has not change since last month.
Basically the same at Turtle Trail and Seagrape beach accesses. Still have about 10-20 ft of dune to cut back to get to the 2004 levels. A little 04 debrise (trees) is showing down low.
I dont think these conditions are good for finding any Spanish Treasure. But you might hook up with a few pieces of lost tourist jewelry. Or some very small 1/2 reales could wash up from the sand coming in.
It took till sometime after 8am for the county to get around to unlocking the gates at Turtle Trail and SeaGrape today.
Hope this help everyone. But keep an eye on the storm, things can change very quickly.
