Still trying to figure out my GTI 2500 and metal detecting in general. Seems that each time I go out, I find two cents - nothing more, nothing less (in change that is). Today was the third time out spending hours detecting and once again I came out with two cents. :dontknow:

I did some good today though, I went down to my local beach and found two very rusty nails, a drill bit and what almost looks like the edge of a razor blade. Just glad I got them out of the sand before someone stepped on them.

It was not a total bust though. As I said I found two pennies (recent ones) and I found a good handful of beach glass, which I collect. Just waiting to find a quarter, a ring, anything but pulltabs, bottle tops and pieces of wire.

Looking forward to find something worthy of a photo to post to you all.

Don't give up. Just learn your machine and good things will come.

Thanks Billy.

I'm glad I at least got something today, although it was pretty much garbage. I was about to send my GTI to Garrett for a basic tune-up just to make sure everything is okay. I might still do it just to be sure since I got it used and to get a modification, which will help for beach hunts.

Learning your machine is most of the battle but remember to get out and dig whenever you can. Also research is a huge part to finding oldies. :coffee2:

also try watching the video that came with the detector if it came with one, that will help ya out and give ya a general idea what ta look for and listen for. who knows maybe the locations your hunting are just searched out. I'd suggest hittin a local well used park or playground where ya know some change is lyin around esp. if they have any kind of carnivals or gatherings there, thats a real good way to learn the machine. keeping it on the factory coin setting is also a good way to start off until ya get some hours on it. i have the gti 1500 and love it, the sizing feature really saves ya digging time. good luck and happy hunting

Hello,

I wouldn't be too discouraged. Here are some suggestions for you.

1) Grab some change from home, a penny, nickel, dime, & Quarter. Then go to a local tot-lot. First drop them down on the sand and determine you can detect them. Next, dig a hole about 2" deep and bury a quarter in the ground, a dime in another hole, etc... Test to see that you can detect these. Once you do that, try a 4" hole, then a 6, then an 8, etc. See how far you go down, look at the meter or display. Once you know how to detect this you are ready for #2

2) Go to local tot-lots at various parks. They are always good for finding clad at least and other misc object. This will further fine tune your detection skills.

3) Try doing the same excercise in harder ground, like a ballfield or soccer field. THen you should have yourself fine tuned to detecting.

Let me know how it works out for ya.
