So, I am really considering adding a new Vaquero to the small but mighty Tesoro arsenal this spring. But I have a question about that red button. I know that it is a “pin point” mode kind of thing, but my understanding, based on what I have read, is that pressing the red button simply takes you into the all-metal mode. Can anybody tell me... first, if this is true, and second, is it the same “all-metal mode” that is locked into place with the disc mode nob? And, Is the RED button all-metal mode just as deep as the standard all-metal mode on the Vaq.

Thank you for your replies, in advance... would really like some insight here.

Correct

I'll get mine out and check, but I believe the red button actuated is same as all metal switch on disc knob.

Brb

Edit: Im 99% sure it is same setting, depth is same.

People add a switch to their Cibolas to do the same....

Btw, did I mention I hate my Outlaw's red button?

The "Pinpoint" button on the Vaq, switches the machine into All Metal. It's also handy for checking and fine tuning the ground balance. :occasion14:

That Outlaw button does take a bit of time to get use too! :icon_thumleft:

Great! Thanks for the reply’s.

As far as the Outlaw goes however, I had no trouble with mine in the short while I owned one. I may even pick up another... down the road. Really want try the Vaq, and after that perhaps the Deleon or Tejon.

But... I really, really, really wish Tesoro would come with an adjustable tone break feature, like the older Pantera model, with ground balance.

Another question... is it possible to purchase a New Black Vaquero with the 9 x 8 concentric? I only see the Black for sale with the 11 x 8 DD.

From what I’ve read, the concentric are much better that the DDs on the Vaq. Can’t decide if I want to purchase the Vaq with the 11 x 8 DD and add the 6” concentric, or purchase the gray w/9 x 8 and as well as add the small concentric. Some have said they don’t see too much difference between the two concentric coils, but the 6” separates much better.

It was economics for me. Buy a Vaquero with 11x8 and add the 9x8 later is a lot cheaper than getting the Vaquero with 9x8 and buying the 11x8 later....

As far as the pinpoint button goes. I hardly use it for actual pinpointing on the vaquero with the 8x9 or 5.75 coils. I use it more for it with the 8x11 though. I use the other two coils 95% of the time anyhow.

I don’t really expect to use it for pinpointing either. The Tesoros I’ve used pinpoint very well just using the cross cross method... always very accurate.

No my purpose for that RED button/all-metal mode quick access, and more to the point of my original question for this thread, is to listen to the target in all metal mode. I have found that once an apparent good target has been identified in the disc mode, a quick check in all metal gives just a little more info, i.e., size, depth, and possible crushed can if it blasts.

It'll work perfect then. You can run disc mode and hit a target, push the red button and check it out in all metal without having to mess up your disc setting knob to switch to all metal.

That’s what’s I was hoping, sounds like you can quickly check your GB too, without messing up your disc setting.

... now I just need to start saving $$$.

I love my Vaq but I hunt civil war ....like corn fields and woods and I have to have that all metal. I roll my thumb on the control knob. It gets tiresome but I cant go walking around a camp with the red button pushed in all the time which makes me yearn for the days of a toggle switch like you find on most Tesoros for the last 30 years. I wish I had bought an Outlaw but I do not believe they were building them yet. I love all of my Tesoros. Between my wife and i we have a ton of them

If you aren't concerned about the warranty, it's an easy job to swap a toggle switch in place of the red button. Did it several years back on a Silver Sabre umax so that I could run it steadily in AM some times.
