Well, my very first time actively treasure hunting has come to a close here in Vero Beach, FL. I rented a BH Pioneer 303- I found that it's an alright machine...not great close to the water, but better up higher near the dunes. Over the course of three days, I found (with and without the detector):
5 bottlecaps of various beers (Bud Light, Corona, Budweiser)
4 rusty nails of various sizes (there is heavy construction going on all along the shore)
6-7 pieces of an unidentified material. At first I thought it was metal due to its shape and density, but the detector didn't register it, so now I think it's either a type of stone I haven't run across before, or very waterlogged wood. I plan on having some sci-major friends of mine analyze it.
1 piece of glass, green with letters. I'll post a picture when I get home. PICS ADDED APRIL 8th.
But this trip was not without a little cash. I found one clad quarter, South Carolina tail. I assume most of you have seen this one, likely in the change you get when you buy your coffee.
Altogether, it wasn't a bad trip. I had fun on the hunt, got a wonderful tan, and the food here really cannot be beat- and I'm all about good food. That's a treasure in itself.
P.S. I forgot to add another find. It was an aluminum cap to a parking column; you put it on the top of a stone column in a parking lot so cars don't park past a point. It surprised me that I found it! There's an artificial reef not far offshore made from a destroyed parking lot, bits of tar and asphalt turn up on the shore sometimes.
