Sold them all.
So today at 1:00p.m. I stop in at the last garage sale and notice a stack of Factory BMW Alum. rims w/tires Blizzack Snow Tires on them. Guy says he's moving south and doesn't need them, asking $100 for all, they've been sitting there since 7a.m. Figured just scrap on rims would cover that. I tell the guy "I can just throw them in the back of my truck" I know the tires should resell no problem for $300-$400, next winter. Check Feebay and OEM Rims sell nicely, should go $400-$700 for set of 4. I only have $35 left form morning buys. Wife says, "ask him to hold them". I say, "been there all day, I'll be gone 10 minutes to the ATM". So you know what happens... I get back and they are still there, I ask if he'll take $80. He of course says that they are "sold" and the guys coming back to pick them up. >:(

MY BAD!! You would think I would have learned by now.

Lessons for the day,

1. Listen to wife once in a while.
2. Carry more cash!

This is going to be a good thread lol. It reminds me of the first rummage sale I went to after deciding to try to sell stuff on ebay. I remember seeing 3 or 4 items that I thought may be of interest to people on ebay. So I note them, and keep walking around the garage sale. I go back to the first item I saw..... GONE... I go to the next item... GONE... I go to the third item... GONE. Needless to say I learned very quickly to grab stuff even if I just THINK I'm going to buy it or it will be gone. It also made me realize that I must have some sort of eye for stuff because if it wasn't good, it would have still been there after 5 minutes. :read2:

I almost started one of these threads a while back. My story;
Local estate auction, has a big box full of vintage toys. One of the items in particular caught my eye. While previewing the rest of the items I do a general search on my smart phone. Items turn up in the 50-90$ sold range...sweet, I got an idea of what to bid. Box lot comes up for auction and goes for 125.00 more than I wanted to pay, so I let it go. Oh yeah...the item GABRIEL GI Joe Walkie Talkies in the box, great condition. I looked up GI joe walkies but not GABRIEL...doh...still kicking myself over that one.

Here is one that has popped into my head:

I hit a subdivision garage sale. A woman was selling her mother's estate. The mother owned a professional seamstress and tailor shop.

She was selling every type of Singer sewing machine you could imagine, for $30 a pop, including the expensive sergers. The seller even guaranteed that they were all working perfectly.

This was about 10 am when I found this sale, and I already had full car, and had spent a few hundred bucks. Ever have those times when your head is telling you one thing, but your gut is telling you another?

While at the garage sale, I tried calling everyone I knew with internet access to look up the sergers, and couldn't find anyone available!!!

When I got home, I learned that those sergers were selling for an average of $200 each on ebay at the time.

So, instead of buying the sergers, I bought the vintage baseball gloves for $8. The rough Mickey Mantle glove sold for $24 on eBay, which was a big disappointment.

Talk about being STUPID!!!!! I could have turned the 7 sergers at $30 each into $1,400.

I even went back to that neighborhood on the following Monday, and left notes in mailboxes asking about the sewing machines. (I couldn't remember which house it was, since they all look the same.)

Sometimes, they don't come any dumber than me....

I looked around a garage sale Saturday and spent too long looking at the junk in the driveway. I took one step toward the lady in the back of the garage to ask the "CyberDan question" when a girl walked straight up to her and said I buy vintage jewelry, even broken or odd pieces and I pay well, do you have any? The lady said ya it is in the house... and the door shut and they were gone. It was a block sale so I quickly went to the other ones then forgot to go back. RAndyd
